Start small. Even a backyard campout counts. Stick close to home, keep it simple, and focus on fun, not perfection.

You need way less than you think. A good tent, sleeping bags, and something to cook on will get you 90% of the way there.

Pick one close to home with bathrooms, water, and space for kids to roam. You can level up later.

One or two nights is perfect for your first trip. Any longer and the wheels start to come off.

Stick to simple stuff: hot dogs, foil packets, and breakfast burritos are hard to mess up and kid-approved.

Stick to a bedtime routine, keep them warm, and bring something familiar from home like a blanket or stuffed animal.

Bring baby wipes, a bin for shoes, and a designated “clean hands” station. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just practical.
